The goal: visit all 50 of the United States. Another goal: visit six of the seven continents (who really needs to go to Antarctica?). But as alluring as the continents are, the US calls to me, and frequently. It’s easy to get to, I speak the language (no, I’m not xenophobic), and the breadth of landscape is breathtaking. There truly are purple mountains majesty, and I want to go from sea to shining sea. Are the fields different in Iowa than in Nebraska? I don’t know – I haven’t been to either yet.

Along the way there are lovely people, small towns, crazy festivals, adventures in nature, traditions, history, and the same ugly pattern of dishes that shows up in antique stores everywhere.

So which experiences are blog-worthy? Most anything, but it’s categorized for you in this nice way.

  • Are We There Yet? –destinations ranging from cities to state parks.
  • Stop the Car–roadside sightings that must be noted; animal encounters; and any time there’s a collection that exists naturally or through photos.
  • I Did Not Know That–particularly juicy tidbits of history, agricultural workings, or social observations.
  • Musings–something caught my imagination and/or intellect and the ponderings are shared for your delight.
  • Festivals–the cardiovascular joy of foods that shouldn’t be fried, the celebrations of nature and economy, the people-watching.
  • Big Adventure–I paid a lot of money, likely was scared, and most certainly did not have feet on solid ground. Hopefully I had fun!
  • From the Silver Screen–when travel coincides with cinema.
  • Made in the USA–certainly there will be factories, but also personalities, local stores, and local stories.

This blog is a tribute to my love for Americana the Beautiful.

One crazy festival down and many, many more to go. Can’t wait to read about them all (and hopefully enjoy a few of them first-hand). BTW – Great pic of the boat!

Can’t wait for you to get to CA! We must do wine country together. Or apple picking (I’ve never been) or the blessing of the animals (I actually had a minute of thought about that one). So much to do and so little time! Can’t wait to read more!!

Hi Paula: Let us know if your travel plans bring you to Wisconsin (on the Great Lakes.) We have a lot to show you!

Thanks for the invitation to the Wisconsin Great Lakes Area. I’ve been to the Menominee Reservation for work and found the region gorgeous and educational- went to a Pow Wow. Plus a local corn husking party that was a blast. I will certainly be back for more beauty and adventures and will let you know when I do and when I write about the experiences mentioned above.

      Thanks for reaching out!

Good on you! Congrats, and kudos for the courage it takes to do what you’re doing. Will follow your adventures closely, and, for the time being, live vicariously through you! Feel free to reach out to us should you want to “compare” or just chat. (We, ourselves, are in the “planning for re-entry” phase of our lives, so much more to come!) Regards to you . . .

Thanks so much for the warm wishes and support! Good luck with your re-entry; serendipity as I depart. Circle of life?
